Germany is enjoying a three-day weekend...thanks to Jesus.
As mentioned before, most holidays here have some religious connection. Germany might not be overly religious these days, but everyone is happy to benefit from the holidays. There are three in June this year.
This one is what I learned as a child to be Whitsunday. I have no idea what it means and will not waste my timing checking Wikipedia. The good thing about it in this country, as opposed to the US, is that there is always a "Whitmonday", so everyone gets a guaranteed long weekend (without any government shenanigans to move holidays). This year's nice weather ensures that church attendance will be even lower than usual.
But, old J.C. is doing alright without the Germans. There are enough believers in other parts of the world. I'm sure there's a full house in Rome--not with Italians, with tourists...
