There is at least one intelligent and thoughtful man in London. Unfortunately, he does not work for the government!
It can be lonely at the top...
Do these people take themselves seriously?
From the safety of his London club, some retired government official--of course, an aristocrat--demands that the British government increase the military by 3000 to be stationed in Germany. These would prove British “strength”, scare Russia, and act as a deterrent.
Send troops to Germany to counter Putin, says Lord Dannatt
Former military head calls for 3,000 troops to be retained and based in Germany
to tell Russia the West is not weak
I am certain the Mr. Putin will suffer sleepless nights, concerned about 3000 poorly equipped and trained soldiers (from press reports in British media) parked in Germany. Of course, German bars, taxi drivers, restaurants, and other small businesses will be happy.
A talking point dictated by the Republican propaganda machine to attack Obama/Democrats and hammered home on all media is that he/Democrats have made America “weak” in the eyes of the world. Sadly, Democrats’ fear of this accusation has led to war in the past and kept the military-industrial complex in gear.
These are the guys that proved American impotence to the world by invading a quasi-defenseless Iraq, declaring “Mission Accomplished”, and becoming bogged down in nation-destroying. Unlike what they had imagined, no one greeted them with flowers. The only flowers were the wreaths on the graves of the dead soldiers. And, what about success in Afghanistan against a bunch of hill tribes? That proved American “strength” to the world.
Of course, who can forget the “greatest” Republican president, who displayed American power to the world by invading that great nation, Grenada, whose total population was less than the US military. That president perches atop a pedestal and worshipped by all those that have ingested the Koolade and believed the doctrine of Fox News.
Strength is in the eyes of the deceiver...
Anyone doubting or not knowing that life is a game should watch/listen to reports from Moscow and Washington about Syria. One would think that these two governments were playing chess, despite the much higher stakes. Peoples’ lives are at risk (or, more correctly, under the gun), but world leaders are trying to score points against each other. Working together to find a common solution is not an option for men with big egos and toys of war at their disposal. Image means more than lives of innocent folks.
I wonder if Vladimir Putin or one of his advisors reads my worthless blog. After all, he (or one of his minions) allegedly said something recently, which he could have learned from reading some of my past posts. One might disagree with much of what he says or does, but he hit this nail on the head.
“Russia dismissed the UK as a small island that no one pays any attention to'”
