Politics in the United States is not about honest debate of issues and compromises on differences of opinion. The good of the country is sacrificed on the altar of selfishness. Plain and simple, public discourse has become all about character defamation. Honesty has gone the way of the buggy whip, the dial phone, and, soon, the combustion engine automobile.
Don’t believe me? Look at how anyone running for president is treated. Or worse, see what they write about AOC, who is trying to make needed changes. Good thing that she is a fighter, more intelligent than most of her attackers, and has thick shin.
There are several cliches about making the same mistake twice: there is no new knowledge to be gained from the second kick of a mule; once burned, twice smart, etc.
With the current UK leadership, that ship has sailed far from shore and into uncharted waters. Not only has the government been defeated three times for the same legislation, there is talk of a fourth attempt.
I do not know how to put that into cliche terms, but history of human stupidity and stubbornness is being made. Talk about beating ones head agains a wall…
I read somewhere that TCWTFH said: “I am President and you’re not.”
This reminds me of the bullying father in the film, Matilda, as played by Danny DeVito. Not understanding that she outwitting him says: “I am smart and you are dumb.” The audience knows who is really the smart one and who is the offensive, ignorant, cheating bully.
I find it difficult to believe that a country allows its leader to lie, cheat, and steal. Hyperbole is bad enough—“most favourite President ever”—but outright lies. And, hasn’t anyone else noticed the neediness? That’s even worse than the narcism.
This merely proves how stupid, uniformed, or ignorant people can be. The left side of the bell curve seems to has shifted right. The useful idiots of a useful idiot have grown. What the country needs is more Matildas…
It has been said the nations have interests, not friends. This explains why some things are so transparent (for anyone with a brain, an understanding of how the world economy works, and the perfidious nature of conservative politicians). The recent announcement of the US government that they are willing to make a trade deal with the UK is nothing but self-serving. The current US “leader” sees the European Union as a major competitor and will do anything to hurt it. The interests that matter are those the make money for Republicans' friends. There are no friends where money can be made.
No one cares about the people of the UK, who will suffer when the just-in-time logistics of current life cease to function, making food, medicine, and fuel shortages inevitable. Americans seem to think that these poor folks will be pleased to be allowed to import genetically manipulated food and chlorinated chicken.
Many articles and books about artificial intelligence have sprung up recently. The evolution of robots to a point where they surpass humans is also a topic.
My first thought is that it would be nice if someone could discover/invent intelligence to fill the void in the Oval Office, which could also be programmed to be honest.
Anyone watching the chaos in the UK surrounding a foolish desire to leave the European Union (or sees how Washington operates) should understand that politicians mouth platitudes about “country” while working only to support the interests of their party, their paymasters, or themselves.
I was reminded, once again, that the world economy is a game based upon myths and could collapse at any moment. Like the Wizard of Oz, there is no magic power controlling the levers behind the curtain. Many extoll the wonders of the “market”, but the foundation is faith in myths.
Just consider a headline I noticed about Uber buying a rival for $1.5 billion. This is a company that has never made a profit in all the years it has been garnering headlines. Unlike a manufacturer that holds an exclusive patent, Uber has rivals and others can pop up to drive its income even lower. Chance of ever breaking even or making money is currently an illusion. But, people keep buying the stock and venture capitalist keep pouring money into the sand on the cars drive.
So, where does the money come from to buy a rival? The “funds” are created with smoke and mirrors known as “accounting”. People put faith in “the Numbers”, because an accounting firm and lawyers—all in on the game and making money from it—add a seal of approval.
William Barr Reads “Moby-Dick,” Finds No Evidence of Whales
By Andy Borowitz
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Attorney General William Barr has just read the classic American novel “Moby-Dick,” by Herman Melville, and found that the book contains “no evidence whatsoever of whales,” Barr stated on Tuesday.
The Attorney General issued his statement on the absence of whales in the Melville classic in a two-paragraph book report released to the news media.
“Those who read ‘Moby-Dick’ looking for whales will be sorely disappointed,” Barr wrote. “There are no whales here.”
To illustrate his point, Barr quoted the book’s first sentence: “Call me Ishmael.”
“As you can clearly see, that sentence does not have a whale in it,” Barr wrote.
The Attorney General indicated that he hoped his report would put an end to “reckless speculation” about the existence of whales in “Moby-Dick.” “It’s time to move on,” he wrote.
Barr disclosed that, after waiting years to read “Moby-Dick,” he was able to finish reading it in approximately fifteen minutes.

He has traveled the world and met sports, film and television stars, political leaders, and royalty. He graduated from Middlebury College, is married, lives in Germany, and has two grown children.
