I read that one of the self-serving clowns, who is trying to become wealthier by running for President, wants to build a wall along the border with Canada. The only reason can be that he has a financial interest in a building company or supplier of wall stuff.
Nation with Crumbling Bridges and Roads Excited to Build Giant Wall
BY ANDY BOROWITZ
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—As America’s bridges, roads, and other infrastructure dangerously deteriorate from decades of neglect, there is a mounting sense of urgency that it is time to build a giant wall.
Across the U.S., whose rail system is a rickety antique plagued by deadly accidents, Americans are increasingly recognizing that building a wall with Mexico, and possibly another one with Canada, should be the country’s top priority.
Harland Dorrinson, the executive director of a Washington-based think tank called the Center for Responsible Immigration, believes that most Americans favor the building of border walls over extravagant pet projects like structurally sound freeway overpasses.
“The estimated cost of a border wall with Mexico is five billion dollars,” he said. “We could easily blow the same amount of money on infrastructure repairs and have nothing to show for it but functioning highways.”
Congress has dragged its feet on infrastructure spending in recent years, but Dorrinson senses growing support in Washington for building a giant border wall. “Even if for some reason we don’t get the Mexicans to pay for it, five billion is a steal,” he said.
While some think that America’s declining infrastructure is a national-security threat, Dorrinson strongly disagrees. “If immigrants somehow get over the wall, the condition of our bridges and roads will keep them from getting very far,” he said.
I spotted the following headline in the Guardian:
Porn star to be featured on Taiwan travel cards to 'cheer commuters up'
I wonder if female commuters will be “cheered up”…
A bit of history for the young folks; a bit of nostalgia and bad/fond memories for some of the geezers out there.
Compare these kids, what they wear, and the tools of war to photos of modern day pawns of the government. One aspect does not change: to many die or are injured because of stupid decisions by people in power.
I should have guessed: there are apps and Facebook pages for refugees walking to Europe from the Middle East and Asia. Nations along the way and aid organisations must provide not only food, water, and shelter, but also charging stations for smart phones. Demands of asylum seekers has evolved over the centuries. If there were still triremes with enslaved roarers, the poor souls would be wired…
The main story filling European news outlets is the refugee crisis. Floods of humanity are walking along the Balkan Corridor to reach the gold-paved streets of Europe, often helped with transportation by governments wanting to pass the hot potato(es). Arguments in the halls of power revolve around who should do what. As usual, some countries do more than others; some refuse to help. United Europe is not united in this instance.
As far as I know, the United States is doing nothing, lying safely across the sea and protected by the Patriot Act. No one seems to feel a need to help people whose suffering was caused—in a large part—by US actions.
I recall 1956. There was a small, abandoned military camp at the end of the street where we lived. One day, it was full of people. I remember my mother or father saying something about “Hungary”, which meant nothing to a kid that knew only Howdy Doody and Roy Rogers. I paid not attention to these newcomers and do not recall any new kids in my class. At some point, they must have moved on, because the camp was sold to a developer, who erected houses. There was a time, when the United States helped…but fear of communism drove decisions. Cleaning up ones messes and helping people in need are not as strong motivation…especially during an election cycle.
As of today, I will be able to watch another child grow and develop.
A girl showed up in Hanau, Germany, this morning: Elisa—who will be known as Lilli—Harriet—after her great grandmother, a fine woman to live up to.
