I made a mistake.
I watched (part) of a program called “The School To Prison Pipeline”. If I had inklings that the the United States has become such a sick society, I am now sure. The things the government does/has done to other countries are bad enough, but imposing systematic injustice on their own children is despicable.
Society glorifies firearms, with children indoctrinate, at worst, and influence, at best. Is there any wonder that kids play with toy guns and bring them to school. The problem is that overreaction to a few terror incidents has made guns in school a crime, even toy guns and even with children. The report mentioned a child being taken out of school in handcuffs for bringing a toy to class. I hope that this is an exaggeration, but I fear that it happened.
One theory is that this is one more means of feeding the monster of profit prisons. Greed and fear out-trump humanity and common sense. Children in Texas, which the program covered, are smothered with tickets, summons, and court appearances, where they are tried as adults and without parent protection. Of course, this costs money. People that cannot pay end up in debt or in prison or both. Feeding the machine and putting people in a hole for life.
I learned that all schools have armed uniformed officials, who are called “resource officers”. What the hell does that mean? They are cops. They are there to produce profits. Governments cut back on teachers, but ramp up on armed intruders. What kind of feeling to children have: fear, loathing, respect, who knows?
In my opinion, and the opinion of others I have read is that gun culture is responsible for school violence. in some Texas schools, teachers are required to carry loaded guns in class. Normal teenage behaviour often leads to arrest and conviction. Common sense has been destroyed by the demands of the fear mongers, gun lovers, and profiteers.
There was a bit on the Daily Show (as well as an article in The New Yorker) about police in Texas “stealing” money from motorists, which they had stopped on the highway. Supposedly, this is legal in many states. Although the money was obtained legally and belonged to the people stopped, the police gave them the choice of handing over the money or their children. What kind of Sophie’s Choice is that? What kind of country permits that? Would illegal immigrants take the risks to reach the United States, if they knew what they would face? They end up in a country where it’s easier for the police to get away with highway robbery than criminals.
Because people are too cheap to pay taxes, communities must send their officers out on the street to vacuum up funds from under the seats of passing cars. Sad…
But, this is country, especially Texas, is god’s gift to humans. The greatest nation that ever existed. Somehow, I am reminded of stories of robbers haunting travels in the Dark Ages and before. What progress has been made in the world? The answer: there are politicians and lawyers making crimes legal.
The most worthless time of my life was the year and one half that I spent as an Army officer at Fort Hood,Texas. That said, I did learn a few things.
I learned the reality about the military, that my prejudices about Texas were valid, that my dream to marry a oil heiress was stupid, that I missed real trees, and much more. At the time, the only firearms I saw were hanging in the rear window of pick-up trucks. The gates to Fort Hood had guards, but they waved in any car with a sticker on the bumper and saluted those with a blue one. I do not recall any crime. Many were angry about the (senseless) war in Vietnam (Don't agree? read the true history, starting in 1918), but I do not recall any violence.
Times have changed. Guns have taken over American culture and being on an Army base does not guarantee safety. Perhaps, it is even more dangerous. Of course, the headlines about the latest shooting in Texas scream “not terror related”, as if this means anything, especially to the dead or wounded and their families. This is a different kind of terror: that of pickling the brains of Americans with fear about ghosts. This is the direct result of a needless war in a country that has oil and another needless war in a country that has devoured invading armies for centuries. These primitive tribes even made the “greatest nation god ever created” look like fools. Millions suffered--and continue to suffer--so that a few could profit. Now, many of the geniuses that brought us the never-ending “war on terror” are writing books and still blathering garbage of talk shows.
Now, they are trying to stir things up in Ukraine. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a little war in Europe? That would be easier than one again Muslims...and just as profitable.
With emphasis of strange...
I was forced to reside in Texas for over two years, compliments of Uncle Sugar. Those were the worst years of my life. From news headlines and the occasional story I can stomach, I discern that things have become worse...
And, then, there’s this...
NB. Even the Gulf News, the English language newspaper of the Emirates has had articles trying to explain these yahoos...which they failed to accomplish.
