I thought that I knew a great of history.
I knew that politician lied, but did not realise how blatantly.
I did not understand many aspects of life, such as why Hillary is attacked so violently or why Muslims kill other Muslims, beyond the normal Sunni-Shiite hated, and so on.
If you want to understand why the world is screwed up, you need to recognise the effect of two groups—neocons in the US and Islamic fundamentalist—and their inspiration—Leo Strauss in the US and Sayyid Qutbin the Islamic world. These two groups helped each other ratchet up their importance and effect on history. When one seemed to be close to failure, the other did something to bring them back to life.
If you want to learn something—and surely be disturbed—watch all 3 instalments of the excellent BBC documentary “The Power of Nightmares”.
As I watched reports from Louisiana about Hurricane Ida, I was reminded of the apocryphal tale of some Native American warning the “white man” not to build where New Orleans now lies. Of course, being arrogant (and stupid) the white man thought he was smarter than some dumb injun. And, people have been beat up by hurricanes ever since and will be up for a long time to come, with or without billions of dollars spent on levees…
Being negative is a stupid person’s way of trying to appear smart without actually being smart.
Florida Judge Rules That Residents Have a Right to a Smarter Governor
By Andy Borowitz
TALLAHASSEE (The Borowitz Report)—In what many have seen as a legal setback for Governor Ron DeSantis, a Florida judge has ruled that the state’s residents have a right to a smarter governor.
“The Constitution does not grant you the right to yell ‘fire’ in a crowded theatre,” Judge John Cooper, of Florida’s Second Circuit, wrote. “Similarly, it does not grant you the right to govern a state like a blithering idiot.”
“The Declaration of Independence enshrines the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” Cooper continued. “All three are imperilled in a state run by a blazing bonehead.”
DeSantis swiftly blasted the ruling, stating that it would have a “chilling effect” on ignorant politicians becoming the governor of Florida going forward.
DeSantis’s statement drew strong support from two of his state’s most prominent political luminaries, the former governors Rick Scott and Jeb Bush.
Professional sports teams are the playthings of rich men. Usually, they grow in value and make money. Often, they are holes into which money can be pumped. Some rich guys don’t care, because they like the aura of credibility owning a club offers.
This doesn’t work in some countries (Germany and Spain, for example) where club are owned by the members and receive special tax treatment. Which explains how one of the most famous clubs in the world—FC Barcelona—can endure being $1.5 billion in debt. Current income cannot meet the salaries of the highly paid professionals (whose costs keep rising). Real Madrid is also in debt, but to an unknown amount.
No one explains how this can work? Sport has always marched to a different drummer.
Here’s a headline that defines what is wrong with society:
“Apple chief executive Tim Cook gets $750 million payout”
This happens at a time when over-worked nurses, teachers, and police receive pennies or, more likely, nothing.
Fairness will never happen, but ridiculous keeps growing.
I wonder if politicians in the West will ever learn that most countries do not want their values imposed upon them. All governments want is money from abroad. They see preaching about “values”, such as women’s rights and freedom of speech, as a “crusade”. This is seen as arrogance. Like missionaries, western (Christian) governments try cram their way or thinking and living down the throats of people unable to defend themselves or wanting/needing the dollars.
Avoiding news of Afghanistan is almost impossible. Images of crowds at Kabul Airport hoping to flee the country are aired around t he clock.
As to be expected, rightwing media scream about disaster and incompetence; even “normal” media are critical. None of these people have read history, because no one mentions the British retreat from Afghanistan in the 1800s. At the time, there were no aircraft, so everyone had to walk or ride a horse. Some genius of a general decided to leave in the winter, forcing everyone to struggle through the Khyber Pass in hope of reaching India (what is now Pakistan). Almost all died from winter storms or snipers.
And, have you noticed that some of the loudest critics are those who championed the military debacle for so many years and were cheerleaders for failed political leaders? Memories are short or non-existent in the world of hypocrites and liars.
I watch many news source. The best, or one of the best, is Al Jazeera. Of course, Fox idiots think that this is a terrorist station, just because the report the way things really are.
Their analysis today of what is happening, has happened in Afghanistan hits the nail directly on the head. They are correct in pointing out that Biden is trying to handle 20 years of failure and finish a bad deal made by the jerk preceding him. The way the withdrawal has proceeded is/was not the problem.
F.D.A. Withdraws Approval from “Whatever Drug Rand Paul Is On”
By Andy Borowitz
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Explaining that it was taking the action “out of an abundance of caution,” the Food and Drug Administration has withdrawn its approval from “whatever drug Rand Paul is on.”
The agency emphasized that it did not know what drug the senator was taking, or whether he was taking any drug at all, but asserted that it was withdrawing its approval out of a concern for public safety.
“If, in fact, Rand Paul is on something, we want to protect the American people from experiencing the same side effects that he appears to be exhibiting, such as irrationality, irritability, and difficulty processing information,” an F.D.A. spokesperson said.
The F.D.A.’s action drew a swift rebuke from Paul, who accused the agency of overreach and declared, “This is my brain on no drugs whatsoever.”
Responding to the Kentucky senator’s statement, the F.D.A. said that it was reversing its earlier decision but would refer Paul for further clinical study.
Rightwing politicians and media love crises. These let them stir up fear and make money. It’s always about the money. These evil people know how to extract funds from the gullible, stupid and weak.
Why else would anyone tout the effect of bleach or deworming medicine to treat a virus? The media blowhards certainly do not want to help anyone but themselves. And, if a politician pushes a medicine, some friend or relative is earring money somewhere.
