What do people remember?
Mostly, what they want to believe about aspects of history about which they know few or no true facts. People in the South still have not grasped the loss of their ill-fated rebellion. And, the slaves might have been freed, but Black folks are still being killed. Lynchings have been replaced by shooting by police. People in the North ignore having stolen the land from Native Americans and celebrate the Pilgrims having survived the first winter, thinking that allowing Indians to own casinos is enough compensation. People in Texas remember the Alamo, but forget about all the low class scoundrels from the Appalachians that flooded into Texas and stole the land from the Mexicans, who had driven out the original occupants of the land. And, so on and so forth across the land.
Of course, few notice how screwed up the country is and how Republican idiots are trying to return to a time that never was….
As Grand Jury Convenes, Trump Changes Name of His Company to Eric Trump Organization
By Andy Borowitz
NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—After news broke that the Manhattan District Attorney was convening a grand jury, Donald J. Trump changed the name of his company to the Eric Trump Organization.
The former President made the announcement in a press conference at his signature Manhattan building, the newly renamed Eric Trump Tower.
“Changing the name of the company is no big deal,” he said. “It’s going to be the same company that it’s always been—with Eric Trump running the show and me just following his orders.”
“It’s only fitting to call this company the Eric Trump Organization, because Eric is responsible for everything it has ever done,” he added. “This is long overdue.”
Asked about the grand jury, Trump said, “From what I’ve heard, they’re going to be looking into Eric’s businesses quite strongly. I hope he hasn’t gotten himself into a big mess. He’s been a great boss to work for all these years, and I wish him well.”
Scanning headlines and reading a few articles, one soon learns that there are few differences between the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, North Korea, Belarus, Brazil, and so on. All are run by self-serving politicians/leaders who are able to lie, cheat, and steal from their populations with impunity and suffer no sleepless nights.
In this crowd of crooks, Angela Merkel stands out as one shining example of honesty and intelligence. Of course, she is criticised for her dowdiness, but no one can assault her character. She lives in a standard apartment with her husband—both are trained scientists—without servants or trappings. They share cleaning and cooking duties. She has not become a millionaire, as she accepts no outside payment from anyone. She dresses simply and has not changed her style during her decades of service. And, yes, she does—in contrast to her contemporaries—actually serve her country selflessly.
Anyone that writes, definitely likes to read, to have read, and to continue reading. Avid readers dislike poor writing, because of the time wasted on it and enjoy good writing, although are frustrated by the revelation of how poor his or her writing is, if he or she is perceptive and self-critical.
I do not know, but would guess, that The New Yorker is appreciated by anyone that writes, because of its quality of writing. Not all pieces are interesting, but almost all writing is excellent. Other publications also have good writing, but not the eclectic mix and constant level of quality.
Being a television media talking head must be a difficult and thankless job. All like to claim or pretend to be fair and balanced, but political leanings are alway evident. Criticism is built into the job, with attacks from the other side business as usual.
News readers on the left must throttle their frustration, when reporting upon the lies and absurdities spouted by those on the right. Jerks on the right must be able to kept a straight face and live with the lies they spin and the absurdities they pretend to applaud.
Opinions on all sides are presented as news and the “truth’. Reality is often distorted to deceive viewers into believing one political leaning or the other. Words have always been easy to manipulate, but now video is increasingly altered to mould opinions.
So, after watching any news program, no one knows nothin’…
Republicans Claim January 6th Rioters Were Middle Schoolers on Field Trip
By Andy Borowitz
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Republicans on Capitol Hill are arguing that a proposed January 6th commission is uncalled for because the rioters were merely middle schoolers on a field trip.
Speaking to reporters, Senator Ron Johnson, of Wisconsin, said that, after reviewing footage of the riot, “It’s plain to see that this was just a bunch of middle-school kids who got a little rowdy.”
“I’ve had teen-agers, and I know what kind of horseplay and tomfoolery they can get up to,” he said. “I didn’t set up a commission every time they raised a little heck.”
Claiming that the rioters’ behavior should be expected of “a bunch of crazy kids looking to cut loose,” Johnson said that the responsibility for investigating them belongs “not to Congress but to their teachers.”
“I think the teachers need to find out who were the class clowns behind these stunts, and say to them, ‘Any more nonsense like this and you’re not going to the water park on the last day of school,’ ” he said.
One can never be too surprised about the myriad of double standards in god’s chosen country…
I noticed a headline about some high school—in Florida, of course—editing photos of females in the yearbook to remove signs of having them breasts. Remember, this is in the country that produces the most pornography of any nation on Earth. This is the country where many priests and preacher engage in “illegal” sex acts, often against minors, and mostly with impunity.
I cannot image the harm of keeping a yearbook away from a teenaged boy, who is probably too busy surfing the internet for much more interesting photos of females.
Most people believe that the Olympic Games are about sport. Sadly, this is only partly true. The Olympic Games are a huge money-making operation, a fact that drives most decisions.
The IOC uses unpaid talent—ie. athletes—garners billions from sponsors and media, and extort extensive concessions from the host (“captive”) nation. Their propaganda machine ensures that few notice the extent of the extortion and the falseness of their claims of goodness.
This is blatantly clear, following recent statements by IOC officials that Japan must make “sacrifices” in order for the Games to be conducted during a pandemic. The health and safety of Japanese citizens is not—and never was—a factor in plans for the Olympic Games. Money is the only consideration. The fact that the Games are being held in Japan is irrelevant: the same threats would be made to any nation.
Let the suffering begin and let the roubles roll…
The planet Earth is a crazy place, because it is peopled with humans.
In Asia, North Koreans let a weird dictator control their lives; in, Europe a dictator rules Belarus; in South America, a jerk rules Brazil, and Africa has a bunch of men molesting their populations.
And, the rest of the world lets these horrible people get away with anything they want to do. Just like with the Clown-with-the-funny hair.
People are strange. Why do they let some people act beastly to their fellow men and prosecute others? Is it powerlessness, cowardice, or stupidity? Whatever it is, nothing will change.
Trump Orders Kevin McCarthy to Go to Prison in His Place
By Andy Borowitz
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In what legal experts are calling a highly unorthodox arrangement, Donald J. Trump has commanded Representative Kevin McCarthy to go to prison in his place.
Although Trump has denied any and all wrongdoing, he told the House Minority Leader to be prepared to plead guilty if the current criminal investigation of the Trump Organization “turns nasty,” sources familiar with the agreement said.
McCarthy, who appeared shaken after agreeing to Trump’s demand, nevertheless put the best face on the situation when speaking to reporters.
“I can think of no greater honor than going to prison for this wonderful man,” McCarthy said.
Behind the scenes, however, congressional sources reported that McCarthy was trying to hammer out an agreement under which Representative Elise Stefanik would go to prison in his place.
