The more I read headlines, the more I believe that the word “fair” should be removed from the English language.
Because, regardless of the political system, life is not fair for the vast majority of people…probably even 99%.
Is it fair that men—it’s always men—are paid many millions of dollars to throw or kick a ball? People that actually do something to benefit society—nurses, teachers, police, and fight fighters—must struggle at minimum wage and even take second jobs to survive.
Why is the head of a sports association paid $128 million, when many doctors must works long hours in poor conditions for a meagre salary?
Why are heads of corporations paid hundreds of times more than the workers they are supposed to lead? Often, these men—it’s mostly men—are rewarded even when driving the company into the ground.
And, don’t get me started on private equity and hedge funds, the modern day robber barons…or pirates. Unlike pirates, who were considered outlaws, modern vultures suck the money out of the economy to satisfy their greed using laws they paid politicians to pass.
Manchin Will Agree to Halloween Only if Candy Is Completely Removed
By Andy Borowitz
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Signalling his opposition to a storied tradition, Senator Joe Manchin said that he will agree to Halloween only if candy is completely eliminated. The West Virginia senator, arguing that the “big Halloween giveaway is over,” said that billions are wastefully spent on candy each year.“People seem to think that children going from house to house to get candy for free is fun,” Manchin said. “I call it something else: socialism.”Manchin’s neighbors said that his opposition to candy on Halloween is long-standing. “Kids skip his house, because he just gives out coal,” one neighbor said.
I have read all of John le Carré’s novels. He was a great writer.
His last novel, Silverview, was published posthumously. One can read this as a criticism of the British secret service, in which he had worked, and the British government. He seems to be asking what one owes one’s country when you no longer recognise it.
I am sure that many Americans are having similar thoughts….
Well, now we know for certain that there is no chance for humanity to survive climate change.
How do I know?
I just read that the “Queen” will not attend the forthcoming governmental conference aimed at fixing things.
Trump Tells January 6th Panel He Has Diplomatic Immunity as Russian Official
By Andy Borowitz
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In his latest bid to prevent the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack from obtaining relevant documents, Donald Trump has claimed diplomatic immunity in his capacity as a representative of the Russian government.According to Trump’s legal argument, his status as a Russian official during his four years in the White House makes all documents produced during his tenure property of the Russian Federation.
“Any attempt by the U.S. to seize Russian property will be seen as an act of war,” a letter from Trump’s legal team reads. While Trump waits to see if his claim of diplomatic immunity succeeds, he is also prepared to argue that, having once hired Rudolph Giuliani as his attorney, he would be justified in pleading insanity.
Every nation has rules and regulations which often baffle people: their own citizens, but especially foreigners.
What is one to think of a country that permits guns to be openly carried into grocery stores, but requires stores to put anything containing alcohol into a brown paper bag?
And, sure, why not have live firearms being used for fun on a movie set that uses firearms in many scenes? That is such a good way to relax and blow off steam.
People are already calling President Biden a failure. He is not. He is a victim of a broken system, a decent man trying to make things better.
How can anyone succeed in a democracy, if one person can derail his agenda? How can a government function, if one of the two parties’ admitted strategy is to block everything done by the party charged with leading the country?
The future looks bleak, even for an optimist…
Why is anyone surprised that someone was shot on a movie set in the United States? This is the country of open carry and concealed carry and regular mass shootings and the holy Second Amendment, which allows crazy people to have guns. Not surprising and the country deserves nothing else
