There are too many opinions floating around, accelerated and widely distributed (potentially) by the Internet. Most are worthless, but Simon Jenkins has the habit of hitting the nail on the head. There may be no such thing as “truth”, but he writes intelligently on any subject he tackles. Usually, he writes about people that lack intelligence, empathy, or good judgment.
Anyone that has not figured out the folly of trying to conquer Afghanistan should read Flashman, by George MacDonald Fraser. It is fiction, but it is based upon the British experience in the 1800s. Besides that, it is very funny (about a tragic subject).

Of course, Fox News fans will not like it nor agree with it, because it is intelligent and well-informed. For anyone interested in foreign policy and current events, it is well worth reading.
