Someone else finally noticed...
Lonely Planet has issued its verdict on London: "overcrowded, overpriced and overrated".
I have known this for years and moaned about it to anyone within hearing distance. Even expensive hotels can be mediocre to down-right dodgy. It is almost impossible to find a decent meal at a decent price, outside Chinatown and some Indian restaurants. Beyond old buildings, many in need of repair, there's not much worth the trip. It's a bit like Disneyland, but at least children are fooled by show.
Still, I like London. First of all, it's fun to complain about. Next, it has great bookshops. And, the eclectic range of shops is unmatched. There is a good range of theater entertainment. Of course, having a similar language is a nice extra, even if one can find English speakers most places on this planet.
I will return, and I will continue to complain...
