I scan many television news channels and newspaper internet editions, even ones leaning in the opposite direction from my basic values.
That said, there is one “channel” that I will not check out: The Sarah Palin Channel. First of all, how is that for hubris? Second, who cares about anything this person says or does. Anyone with half a brain knows that she is only interested in amassing personal wealth through lies, distortion, and dishonesty. Sadly, there are plenty of people with half or less of a brain, who are willing to waste money of idiocy they want to believe. This surely a scam to separate stupid people from their money.
There are few people in public life I respect less…sadly, there are a few, which shows how crazy human life can be. Although one click is surely worth very little in terms of income, even that insignificant amount is too much to contribute to this ridiculousness.
In Dubai, one sees every automobile model, especially the expensive ones. Ferraris, Maseratis, Aston Martins, and Lamborghinis are a dime a dozen. Top model Mercedes, BMW’s, and Audis are so common to be uninteresting.
Stretched versions of various limousines are spotted daily, I of which I find a bit ridiculous. I have had the misfortune of riding in a stretched Cadillac, so I do not understand the appeal. Until today, the most ridiculous stretched monstrosity was a Hummer. A Hummer is dumb enough, but a stretched one?
Today, I spotted a stretched automobile and I had to stare to figure out what it was. I never would have imagined that anyone would be foolish enough to do this and I could even less imagine why anyone would want to ride in it. Perhaps, it is for people who know nothing about cars, beyond that it is a vehicle with four wheels and an engine.
After watching programs on the background on many writers, singers, and actors, I have reached the conclusion that an “overnight success” takes a minimum of ten years. This is the only explanation as to why anyone would build, rent, or ride in a stretched Chevrolet!
Unfortunately--no, on second thought, fortunately--I did not take a photograph. This is not something I need to see a second time...
I want to re-visit two statements that I have made in the past. First, most are aware that only a stupid person never changes his or her mind. Of course, stupid people do not understand or are not aware of this wisdom. Second, I have pointed out that women should not play ice hockey.
I am not admitting to either stupidity or changing my mind, but I do want to say something positive about women’s hockey. I still believe that this is not a sport for “girls”, but I have been impressed by the skating and stick-handling skills of the players I’ve seen at the Sochi Games. I enjoy watching the games, because they remind me of good college hockey of my youth. I do not like the overly physical state of the game at the professional level, so the more technical style of the women’s game, where body checking is not allowed, is far more pleasing. This is not unlike my opinion about women’s soccer.
The Canada-USA game was excellent hockey. Either team could have won. This was a preview of the (expected) final match-up.
I wonder if the Daily Mail editor, who does the layout, noticed the appropriateness of placing the following two stories beside each other…
The first concerns an utterance by the Mayor of London.
“Boris Johnson was today accused of 'unpleasant, careless elitism'
after claiming some people were not bright enough to get on in the modern world.”
The second is about a US woman, who seems to prove his point.
“Mother, 27, who 'gave birth in bar bathroom and stuffed baby in the toilet
before watching pay-per-view wrestling with friends' faces death penalty.”
I noted a news item in which the Chinese government has warned the United States about consequences of a possible default.
Like this will have any (positive) impact on the idiots (not) working in Congress. Most of these fools probably could not find China on a map and will react negatively to outsiders giving them advice. No one can tell the leaders of the “god's chosen nation” what to do.
Of course, government default will have no impact on members of Congress. They are paid for their uselessness regardless of the world coming to end. God promised...
A view into the abyss from outside and inside...
Flipping through news channels, a statement by one of Fox News’ blowhard idiots caused me to pause. He said “Environmentalists like unemployment.” The discussion had something to do with oil, so perhaps they were talking about the Keystone pipeline.
I did not listen further, but am certain that no evidence was provided for such an absurd assertion. This is a perfect example of stirring up stupid people to win support for an equally absurd proposal.
I was not born to be a cynic. Perhaps, being born in and growing up in a country shaped by the Constitution allowed me to learn too much and believe that I could voice my opinion. Now, I want to stick my head in the sand and pretend that things I read each day are not true...
I have difficulty believing the government, but definitely do not believe any company that earns profit by working for the government...especially those doing secret work.
Simple people might believe a government official who says that surveillance “might prevent the next Boston”. I ask why it did not prevent the last one.
It’s a proven fact the Americans vote against their own best interests and swallow government lies. USA has become the Land of the Unfree and Home of the Willingly Duped, all guilty until proven innocent.
I do not understand the appeal of Madame Tussaud's. Why would anyone pay money to look at something made of wax? If one needs to see famous people, simply look at a photo or film.
I would not want to meet or spend time with the real person, which has been depicted, so I certainly would not want to pay and then stand in line to look at a hunk of dolled up, colored wax. This is one of the greater feats of separating the fool from his money.
Prior to writing novels, the author enjoyed a multifaceted career: from decorated combat aviator to advertising professional to global communications director of a major consumer brand. He has traveled the world and met sports, film and television stars, political leaders, and royalty. He graduated from Middlebury College, is married, lives in Germany, and has two grown children.
