The upcoming election season will surely see continued and increased use of Republicans' favorite campaign tool: character assassination.
It is the ideal weapon for anyone with nothing to offer, because it's easy to employ and there is little to no effect on the perpetrator. It is not unlike someone strolling past a pond, putting a drop of poison in the water, and walking away with a self-satisfied smirk on his or her face. The insidious effect is immediate, but it's source is impossible to detect. Denial comes easily and suggestions of the rumor's veracity are also easy to emphasize. The self-satisfied smirk can be learned from any used-car salesman.
