Today is Father's Day in Germany. It always falls on Ascension Day, probably because that is a national holiday (in a rather nonreligious country, most holidays fall on religious days). It is not a day of presents and honoring one's father. Rather, traditionally, it is a day when men gather in groups with cases of beer and drink. Drunkenness has been known to ensue. Children avoid their fathers at the end of the day...perhaps happy that they did not buy presents or honor them.
My family have never noticed or mentioned Father's Day....
