The tone of public dialogue in the United States is atrocious and shameful. Ths has nothing to do with liberal or conservative.
For those of you that do not know history, the Republican Party is to blame (as well as weak Democratic enablers and appeasers). They led the drive to repeal/change the fairness in broadcasting law during the Reagan disaster. Under that statute, broadcasters were required to give equal time to all sides of an argument and all parties. Fair treatment and civility were the standards.
Rabid talk radio and the likes of Fox Not-News are the direct result of this law change. Re-enacting this law would rid the country of such scum as Rush Limbaugh (who may or may not be nice person, although reports on his character suggest the later). No one should be permitted to spout in public (and earn a bundle of money doing it) the garbage this man is allowed to rant about.
Although such vitriol is a crime against all decent citizens, the law seems to be on their side. That’s the way the Republicans wanted it, so that they can attack with impunity anyone disagreeing with their crooked agenda. America is a sadder place because of this law. But, those that destroy the fabric of the nation are able to make a lot of money…and that seems to be the American Way.
