Good movie, if you do not mind a bit of violence and a few ugly characters. I rather enjoyed True Grit. It's worth watching, merely to see a great performance by a young actress. Hailee Steinfeld deserved her Oscar nomination. Of course, Jeff Bridges is always good. It goes without saying that a Coen Brothers film will tend towards the more brutal end of the creative spectrum, but it suited this story. Those were rough times, too often glorified and prettified in standard Westerns.
The only disappointment was to see how Mattie turned out, because I had imagined her to grow to be more comely. I would have preferred a voice over and my imagination. As a precocious child, she did not let anyone push her around. Such a trait in an older woman gets a different label.
