An article in Vanity Fair about publishing, authors, and the recession caused me to reflect upon each of these subjects. I am happy that my “starving author” phase came late in life, during a period in which I do not suffer from lack of food or shelter. I have been a voracious reader for as long as I can remember, perhaps picked up from my parents, both of which were frequently caught with a book in their hands. With much reading, I developed an interest in and respect for the written word. It was only natural to try my hand at writing...and to keep trying to master the art. I hope to do this before I die...
