Many people complain about “too much government”. I have a different complaint: too many rules in soccer.
When I played the sport in the last century, there was no offside rule. I think that this rule spoils the game and favors any team with a weak defense. Scores would be higher, which might...might...make the game more attractive to Americans. For everyone else, matches would be more exciting.
What's wrong with making defenses work harder? Just because offense is generally easier than defense is no reason to level the playing field.
